Professional Email for Small Businesses
Business email is about more than sending and receiving messages. Over the years, I've found that having the right tools working together makes keeping on top of everyday business life that little bit easier.
More than just an email address
I've used Google Workspace for years, both for my own business and when supporting clients. What started as a practical way of managing professional email has become a familiar part of how I organise my working day.
Having an email address using your own business domain certainly looks more professional than a free personal address, but for me, the real benefit is how everything fits together.
I manage correspondence across several businesses, so Gmail's labels, colour coding and search tools are particularly useful. They help me keep different responsibilities organised without juggling numerous separate email systems.
The tools I find useful
Alongside Gmail, I regularly use Google Calendar and Contacts to manage appointments, meetings and business contacts. Google Drive is handy for storing and accessing files, particularly when working remotely or needing information across different devices.
I still prefer Microsoft Office on my computer for most of my document and spreadsheet work. Google Workspace doesn't need to replace everything you already use, and I think that's worth remembering.
For my website and ecommerce work, I also regularly use Google's wider tools, including Analytics, Search Console, Merchant Center and Google Ads. These are separate services rather than features you need a paid Workspace subscription to access, but I appreciate the convenience of working within the wider Google ecosystem.
I've also started exploring Gemini within Gmail. Being able to search for emails using ordinary questions rather than remembering exact keywords is genuinely useful, although I still prefer writing my own correspondence!
Is Google Workspace right for your business?
Not every small business needs a paid subscription. If you only send occasional emails and your existing setup works well, there may be little reason to change.
However, if you're looking for professional business email, organised calendars, cloud storage and tools that can grow alongside your business, I think Google Workspace is well worth considering.
Google offers several business plans with different storage allowances and features, so it's worth comparing them rather than automatically choosing the most expensive.
For me, the biggest advantage isn't any particular feature. It's having reliable, familiar tools that help me stay organised while I concentrate on the actual work.
Interested in Google Workspace?
If you're considering it for your own business, you can explore Google Workspace and its available plans through my referral link.
I also have a limited number of Google promotional codes offering 10% off the first year for eligible new Business Starter or Business Standard subscriptions in the EMEA region. If you'd like one, feel free to get in touch before signing up, and I'll happily share a code while they're available.
Just to be transparent, I participate in Google's Workspace Referral Programme, so Dijstra Ltd may receive a one-off commission if you sign up through my link and meet Google's eligibility requirements. My comments here are based on my own experience, and any promotional offers are subject to Google's terms.
